1. Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
CBT consists of unlimited training until you reach a safe standard of on-road riding. Normally conducted on a maximum ratio of 2:1. Approximate duration six hours, usually completed in one day. CBT must be completed before a learner can ride unsupervised on the road on L-plates.

2. Theory Test
The theory test is in two parts - a multiple choice section and a hazard perception test. Candidates must be successful in both parts to pass the test. A mock theory test is available online here.

3. Module 1 Test
The test is carried out on a DSA approved test site providing safe tarmac riding conditions with no other traffic in the vicinity. For this module you will need to show proficiency in various elements, i.e. the U turn, figure of eight, swerve and avoid procedure and emergency stop. This test must be completed before taking Module 2.

4. Module 2 Test
This is more or less the same as the old style motorcycle test and consists of a road ride covering various road and traffic conditions of about 35 mins with the DSA examiner following. The U turn and emergency stop has now been removed from this test.

There are many organisations that can provide help and assistance with the motorcycle test as well as advanced training. Try the links to the right of this page.
